Syria U23 comes back from 10th WABA tournament
as the team had a great time there. The National Team took part in the
10th WABA tournament taking place in Duhok, Iraq from the 9th 13th of
June, 2010, along with IranB, Palestine and Iraq, being the only four
teams (having Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen withdrawing) qualifying to the
Stankovic Cup in Lebanon from the 7th 15th of August.
At first Syria beat Palestine 100:53. It was an easy start for the
Syrian team that opened the game withn 32-12 [read

Syria
U23 comes back from 10th WABA tournament as the team had a great time
there. The National Team took part in the 10th WABA tournament taking
place in Duhok, Iraq from the 9th 13th of June, 2010, along with IranB,
Palestine and Iraq, being the only four teams (having Jordan, Lebanon
and Yemen withdrawing) qualifying to the Stankovic Cup in Lebanon from
the 7th 15th of August. At first Syria beat Palestine 100:53. It was
an easy start for the Syrian team that opened the game withn 32-12. They
also won the second period 19-16 and had 70:39 lead after three
periods. Iran outscored Syria 58:42 as both teams played really bad
in offence. The MVP of the game was awarded to Mehrad
Atashi (192-G-86). Iraq overcame Syria U23 57:52. The latter
started with 13-12 after the opening quarter and even won the second
period. Syria increased to 35-20 but could not keep the score for good.
Iraq was too good in the second half and won the game.

Astana beat Al Jalaa to finish fifth - May 30,

Astana Tigers - Al Jalaa 75:68
Astana Tigers clinched the fifth spot at the Asia Champions Cup in
Qatar. The Kazakh champions held off Al Jalaa of Syria in the final game
at the tournament. The victory marked the best ever result for the
Tigers. In 2007 the Tigers occupied the sixth place. Dmitriy Gavrilov
(205-F-86) knocked down 15 points to lead the charge.
Al Jalaa looked slightly better at the early stages of the game. The
Syrian team recorded a 21:18 advantage at the first break [read

off Al Jalaa of Syria in the final game at the tournament. The victory

close but Al Jalaa still led by one point 36:35 at the interval. Astana
finally managed to surged ahead in the third quarter. The Kazakh side
pulled in front and clinched a 55:53 advantage heading into the fourth
frame. The Tigers managed to establish a reliable buffer in the final
minutes and withheld Al Jalaa rescue attempts to celebrate victory. Anton
Ponomarev (209-C/F-88, agency: Court
Side) nailed 13 points for Astana. Aleksandr
Tiutiunik (199-F-90) added 12 points for the winners. Michel
Maadanli (196-G-81) provided 15 points in the loss. Sharif
